Remarks:

As the name implies, this is a chance to climb Mt. Whitney. At 14,496’, this is the highest mountain in the contiguous U.S. Our first night will be spent at Whitney Portal to acclimate to the altitude (9,000’). We will then climb to Trail Camp for the second night prior to our summit attempt. On the third day, we will summit Mt. Whitney and return to trail camp and then head further down the mountain to camp. On the final day, we will descend to Whitney Portal for one fantastic hamburger before our drive back home.

There are only 8 available spots on this trip (including adults), and only scouts and adults that have shown physical ability and know-how will be permitted to go! Are you up to it?

Don’t expect an opportunity to do this trip to come around again! It is said that 30% of those that try this climb FAIL. This is my third year to go, and I have seen many people not able to complete this climb. Summiting Mt. Whitney is something to remember for the rest of your life!

Late June should see the trails completely free of snow, and in fact the weather should be rather warm. Climbers do need to be prepared for any kind of weather though, as Whitney can dish out anything-anytime!

Lightweight backpacking gear and a good pair of well broken-in boots will be in order.
