Friday night will be spent near the trailhead at either Cuyamacca or Laguna Mtns.

A variation of a backpack trip we took last year, the hiking will begin with a 9-mile stretch along the Sunset Trail in the Laguna Mountains, descending along Indian Creek trail to camp at the old mining site in Deer Park. (Scouters wishing to earn their 10 mile hike merit badge requirement can continue on to Pine Valley Rd. to complete the 10 mile requirement).

Day Two will find us climbing back up to join the East Mesa Loop trail in the Cuyamacca’s. Wild turkey and deer are usually here in abundance as well as all the natural beauty of spring as it unfolds before us. Crossing the Sweetwater River, we will conclude this trek at the Green Valley Campground for a total of about 15 miles.

This should be a moderate trip on established trails. Water will be available along the trail. Test your gear and outdoor skills with great scenery along the way. We will probably adjust the trail beginning to suit the 10-mile requirement for the hiking merit badge that some boys may be working on.

This backpack will be a great one for anyone that has at least completed "unit backpacking weekend" at Mataguay.
