July is a vacation month for our program. We have a week of Summer Camp
at Fiesta Island the week of July 13th. Other than that, we invite all our Scouts and
families to enjoy the time off from school and scouting activities. Our 2008-09 calendar
is in the final stages and should be available in July. This newsletter is more of what's
coming up.
There will be no Troop Meetings in July.
We begin our monthly meetings on Tuesday August 5th. Our theme will be
Shooting. We will be camping at Matuguay Scout Ranch the weekend of August 22-24th. We
have arranged for Rifle and Archery Shooting and have made arrangements for the Pool to be
open. We are going to bring back Service Projects for each weekend camp we do. Each Scout
and Adult is expected to participate in whatever Service Project we arrange with the local
ranger.
Septembers' theme is Sports. Our camp will be at Lake Oso. This is an
Orange County Council Camp. We have made arrangements for a number of activities. The
dates are September 12-14th. More information will be available at the August meetings.
SAN DIEGO CHARGER FOOTBALL GAMES
We have been a part of the Charger's program for a number of years.
Based on Rank, our Scouts pass out a game day newspaper in exchange for free, but
restricted view seats for selected home games. We have more demand than available seats.
We have chosen a pre-game this year. The date is Saturday, August 9th against the Dallas
Cowboys. We need to be there at 2:30pm in full Class "A" uniforms. Game time is
7:00 PM. We should finish up around 10:00 PM and be back before 11:00 PM. For those first
timers, this is a long day. We have openings for 2 adults and 6 scouts. If you are
interested, or have questions, call John Johnson.
BACKPACKING TRAINING WEEKEND
We have reserved the weekend of Oct. 11-12th for a Boy Scout council
backpack training at Matuguay. We go up on a Saturday morning, hike on the upper side of
Matuguay, camp overnight and finish up Sunday with an equipment demo It is a full weekend
of info and hiking. If you have an interest in backpacking, plan on joining us. If you do
not have any equipment, we have backpacks and the needed cooking equipment.
We have set aside the Veteran's weekend in November for a great canoe
experience on the Colorado River. This year, we will be launching from the base of Hoover
Dam and canoeing approximately 35 miles. We finish up at Willow Beach. Time permitting, we
are planning on spending one night and the next day exploring Mitchell Caverns near Amboy,
CA. These are limestone caves that are great for exploring. We will set up a training
schedule. Due to the water temp's and rapid currents' this event is for experienced
canoers only.
- GRAND CANYON BACKPACK TRIP
- OR
- CHANNEL ISLANDS OCEAN KAYAKING
We have a later Easter in 2009. Depending on interest, we will schedule either a
backpack trip into the Grand Canyon or an ocean kayaking/camping trip to the Channel
Island National Parks. More information will be available as we get into the next calendar
year.
